“The ancient practice of working with smoke, the element of fire and wind, has been used for centuries. In Norwegian we call this practice Eimilauga.
Eimilauga can be practiced for purification, grounding, connection and transitions/rituals.
We want you to carry the tradition further and continue our Norwegian Wilderness legacy. “

In Rituals of Making Vol. 2. We explore the world of plants and our Nordic tradition of incense bundles making and the smoke cleansing called Eimilauga. Eimr/Eimi: In Old Norse means: Steam, smoke or reek. Lauga: Old Norse for to bathe or to wash. Just like the Norwegian word for Saturday, Lørdag, comes from Laugardagr—the traditional bath day. Eimilauga literally means to bathe in smoke.
It is an open practice, meaning it has been done by non- Indigenous in Norse tradition for as long as we have had plants. Our Sàmi sisters and brothers have the closed practice of Suovvabuhttisteapmi/Saning and the various Native Communities from Turtle Island (USA), a closed smudging practice commonly used with white sage.
Many modern homes today burn a palo santo or sage, or other types of incense sticks, not only for the air purification purposes but as well for their smell and aura. By re-introducing the Nordic Native plants and making knowledge of this practice accessible again, we aim to foster a local approach of burning incense.
